So you want to learn about bacteria and then about microbiome.

Let’s start with the basics.

Is it Bacteria or Bacterium?

One of them is called a bacterium (single).  More than one is called bacteria (plural).

A simple case of the singular vs. the plural; bacterium means one bacteria.

Example:

      • woman, women
      • man, men
      • bacterium, bacteria

Since bacteria are very small, and it isn’t likely you’ll talk about them singularly, so it is generally acceptable to simply say ‘bacteria’.

Avoid using the following incorrect terms:

      • bacterias
      • a bacteria

So the question is…

What are Bacteria?
